Ruff-Cut Portable Wood Saw
Reviewed by: Joe Ames
Where to buy: Army-Navy, Sporting Goods Stores, Catalogs
Cost: $15

This is the greatest invention since females. It is a chainsaw blade with handles that allow you to saw through firewood like a beaver on steroids. Oak, Maple, whatever, it will be cut into pieces very quickly using this wonderful tool.

This should not be compared to the "survival" saws once used by pilots and commandos. In fact, those wire-saws break easily, don't last very long, and have been replaced by the Ruff-Cut saw.

The whole saw comes in a tin the size of a woman's compact, and weighs only a few ounces. The chain can be sharpened by anyone who sharpens regular chainsaw blades.

I used mine for about three year's worth of camping before it needed sharpening (cost: $2.50) and that was after many hardwood logs were reduced to firewood.
